People sometimes ask me what I enjoy most about the writing process.

There are a lot of things I enjoy, but what I love most about it is how I feel a deeper closeness to God through it. I call my novels inspirational because each story reflects the lives of average people, touched by and loved by the Father of the universe. His love has the power to change lives, we are forever marked by his grace, forever saved by his love.

For me, each story starts as a flash through my mind, like a series of pictures. The pictures have faces of the characters in them, but they aren’t necessarily clear. What is clear is how the faces have a human dimension, they are meaningful to the story, they each have a purpose.

As it wanders through my mind, the story becomes more layered, deeper and more intricate; characters and moments start to connect, and as they intertwine and become more vibrant, the whole thing becomes weightier, more meaningful. That’s when I realize that I have to write it. The story is alive.

There are moments during the writing process that are spontaneous, they seem to come out of nowhere and sometimes when I re-read passages, I am surprised that I typed the words. (I will admit, that’s kind of creepy but also kind of cool.)

So now I find myself falling deeper into the fourth novel – I love the story and the characters, I love the process and I am thankful to God for it. I am excited for the rest of the story to unfold and to share it with you-       J. Marie
