Have you ever listened to a song that is so high-energy, so sweet and syrupy, that it makes you want to gag?
Don’t get me wrong. I’m sure if this was another day – a day where I felt differently – that same song could play on my Spotify and I would most likely sing along with it and enjoy it like everyone else.
But, it’s today. And today just happens to be not fun. Perhaps you can relate?
It’s a hard truth to accept. Jesus told us we would have this type of day. In fact, he reminded us that he came with the express purpose to provide relief for this type of day, for circumstances such as these. Because sometimes our circumstances just seem to overwhelm us.
John 16:33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.
After all, HIS is the victory. I will take heart to remember this.
If you look up the definition of “take heart” you will find it means “to be encouraged or made to feel optimistic.”
It’s a choice I can make and will need to make daily – sometimes in the face of not-so-fun circumstances – but being encouraged and optimistic that our Savior has overcome the world seems like a pretty good choice to me.
